The Development Engineer makes sure that the engine is installed into machine correctly, functions and performs as expected. The machine can then be sent into the field, and they will need to ensure that it continues to perform as expected. The role is based in Peterborough, UK.

An exciting opportunity for a Development Engineer to join the team and have a direct impact on the success of our Customer Machine Engineering group. As part of Global Engine Development, you will be involved in a variety of engine installation and test projects into off-highway machines and generator sets. Primarily covering mechanical and electrical engine to machine integration, shakedown, and test.

Responsibilities of Development Engineer

*Work in any number of functional areas requiring an engineering degree, including, but not limited to, product design, development, research, quality, reliability, materials, manufacturing process, application and installation, product performance/support, service, and facilities.
*Individuals may have multiple assignments during their tenure which may require the Engineer to review the work of technicians or other support personnel, provide technical advice to individuals at various levels in the organization and work with another unit or team. Assignments will become more complex and require the Engineer to assume a significant role, either as an individual contributor or as part of a project team, with increasing emphasis on analysing, identifying, and applying engineering techniques to solve problems and make recommendations.
*Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all the following:
- Evaluate new products, processes, or systems.
- Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units.
- Contribute to the design of new products and processes.
- Perform product and process maintenance.
- Collaborate with and support other engineers, managers, customers, and suppliers and represent the company externally.
*Manage their own development, continuously learning through experience. Key learning should be rounded out during this tenure, including knowledge of product performance and applications, understanding of customers' needs and working knowledge of key processes.
Effectively manage several projects simultaneously.
*Operate a multitude of different off-highway vehicles including but not limited to, Hydraulic Excavators, Back-hoe Loaders, Telehandlers, Track Type Tractors where required.

Skills for Development Engineer

*Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 3-5 years' experience or a master's degree in an Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 1 to 2 years' experience or a doctorate degree in engineering.
*Ability to work on increasingly more complex assignments, either through on-the-job assignments or
through pursuit of the advanced degree.
*Experience working with a different unit or working with different products, processes, or systems is desirable.
*Must have ability to communicate effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers.
*Demonstrable high level of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical/electronic aptitude with a good working knowledge of engines and machines.
*A good working knowledge of instrumentation and its application.
*Have a fully flexible approach to the job role & responsibilities.
*Prepared to undertake required training/learning.
*Good PC skills ability to use Microsoft Office and CANape.
