SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

THIS POSITION IS PERMANENT AND CAN BE BASED IN EITHER THE CLIENT'S CHIPPENHAM OR BRISTOL OFFICES. THESE ARE HIGHLY SECURE SITES SO YOU MUST BE ABLE TO GO THROUGH THEIR SECURITY VETTING PROCEDURE (BEEN IN UK AT LEAST 5 YEARS).

Key to this role is that you must have proven experience of managing Software Development Managers.This is a senior role within the development organisation. A largely internal facing role, leading / working with the Software Development Managers (SDMs), to ensure the agreed projects are on time and to scope.
SDM's manage multiple scrum teams (10 to 15) delivering multiple projects and this role is both leading scrum teams (as needed) and managing the SDM's from a delivery perspective.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills in order to co-ordinate the variety of tasks needed to fulfil the job requirements.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience of driving and managing software development projects in a similar or larger organisation to successful completion.

  • Ability to manage several projects at the same time having both direct responsibility and delivering through SDMs (or equivalent).

  • Computer literate with a solid understanding of computer systems and a basic knowledge of the specific technology we use.

  • Knowledge of SSS Products particularly Control Rooms and / or Communication products.

  • Experience in Project Management Governance and Lifecycle Management processes including planning, change control and risk management.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing the SDM's to coordinate and plan (high level) all the software releases.

  • To recognise early when changes occur to the projects (scope, people, delays, etc) and measure impact of the change providing 'cost' to the Development Director and other SDM's.

  • To ensure that the assigned projects are delivered to time, cost & quality.

  • To provide project reporting to the Development Director on a weekly basis.

  • To liaise with project sponsors and/or customers during the project lifecycle.

  • To be the focal point for the external teams for progress updates (inwards and outwards).

  • Where needed, to lead projects in their own right ensuring timely reporting and delivery to plan.
